It is a type of petrified wood where the organic material has been replaced by opal.

To be termed wood replacement opal, it is hypothesized that a wood branch or tree root has become opalized, where the wood has been replaced by opal.

This Boulder Wood Replacement opal (opalized wood fossil) still retains fragments of vegetation snap frozen in time, potentially millions of years ago.

This Boulder Opal specimen displays sparkling pinks and pastel green coloration within the now rock, wood grain.

The opal colors glow and shimmer in the light.

This opal specimen has a highly polished surface with heaps of that natural character that Boulder Opal is known for.

The specimen has a slightly curved surface which  invites you to touch.
